Sorry, I didn't get that name

'Etiquette' is the customary code of polite behaviour in society or among members of a particular profession or group. Etiquette is also one of my favorite topics, next to education.

Wikipedia says: 'The French word étiquette, literally signifying a tag or label, was used in a modern sense in English around 1750. Etiquette has changed and evolved over the years and plays a vital role in the society today.'

This is why we cannot afford to ignore it. Etiquette and good manners define how we should behave in certain situations. So what happens, if you commit a blunder? How to react?

With this and a few upcoming posts I would like to give tips on how to solve situations in which your good manners left you, but you still need to cut a fine figure.

This often occurs and should not disturb you. It is most natural when you ask immediately, using the words "Forgive me, I have not understood your name."

Or you can ask to spell the name - this is the safest way, especially over the phone. But then take that name down with a pen!

When you have received a business card from your partner, then you are of course on the safe side.
